Carl Weisbrod was appointed as Director of the New York City Department of City Planning and Chairman of the New York City Planning Commission by Mayor Bill de Blasio in March, 2014. Weisbrod has more than 35 years of experience serving the people of New York. As a member of the de Blasio Administration, Weisbrod is charged with creating land use and zoning policies to promote an equitable, resilient, sustainable and economically vibrant New York City. Weisbrod has also been a key player in the development and implementation of Housing New York, the Mayor’s affordable housing initiative. Weisbrod began his career as an anti-poverty lawyer before joining City government in the Lindsay Administration. He oversaw the redevelopment of Times Square under Mayors Koch and Dinkins and Governor Mario Cuomo, was the founding President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation under Mayor Dinkins, the founding President of the Alliance Downtown New York, and President of Trinity Real Estate, a division of historic Trinity Church.
